The Stillwater League has concentrated their programming and monitoring activities on the local level.  In 2007 we studied immigration and the impact locally.  This corresponded to the national study on immigration.  In 2008 the program topics related to health care.  This culminated with the Commissioner of Health speaking at the Annual Banquet in February.  The May issue of the Voter for 2008 (click here) describes the years work and provides detailed information about our activities.  The 2009 annual meeting report in the Voter describes the year's priorities and accomplishments.  (click here).  In 2010 we had programs related to local government including: structure of city government, public housing, water system, bonds and finance, county government and the Stillwater school  district.  A program in human trafficking was followed in 2011 with a more intensive study for the community, including workshops. 

A major focus for the last several years comes under the category of Voter Service.  In preparation for the Presidential Election in 2008 we concentrated on voter registration.  This included having a booth at the Alpha activities on the OSU campus as well as at the Lights On Stillwater event.  We had between 10 and 15 registration events and thank the businesses that allowed us to have a presence at their location.

Another part of Voter Service is providing voters information about elections and candidates.  The SLWV asks the candidates questions and those responses are printed in the local newspapers and posted on our website.  We appreciate the support of the newspapers in providing the voters accurate information. 2010 found us preparing and presenting candidate forums for Stillwater Board of Education positions and City Council seats.

The members of the Stillwater League formed a book discussion group in 2005.  Each month a member suggests a book to be read and a leader guides a discussion of the book.  The Calendar page, and past calendar page, can give you an idea about the wide variety of books that have been discussed.

The backbone of League activities is to research and study the information on a topic/issue and if appropriate, reach consensus.  Thus gathering accurate information with speakers, films, publications, etc. is the focus of our programming.
